Felicity Flutter

Felicity Flutter is primarily a Seascape watercolour artist. The coast close to her home near Rye, East Sussex is her source of inspiration. Embracing the chance of finding something surprising and eye-catching among the photographic references she obtains while observing wild stormy weather.

Back in her studio, Felicity works using a series of repeat camera images ‘designing’ her compositions in Photoshop. She crops and splices the reference pictures, adjusting the colours and tones, then paints from these layouts. She builds up layers of watercolour paint, starting with washes and finishing with a dry brush or natural sponge and splattering. She also works in mixed media combining pencil drawing with watercolour, aiming to find a good balance between detail and looser mark making.

Felicity hopes to be a visual voice to highlight the fact that global warming is producing increasingly stormy and eventful weather.

2022 began with Felicity winning a place to exhibit at a prestigious International Watercolour Art Event in Shropshire; International Watercolour Masters. In April, she was elected as a full member of the Royal Institute of Painters in Water Colours which is based at the Mall Galleries in London.

“Felicity’s waves capture their energy, yet are also calming - as if you could stroll right into them and feel the water lapping at your bare feet” - Quote by Tabish Khan, London Art Critic
