Geraldine van Heemstra - Uisge

Inspired by the flow of the Hebridean river The Kilmartin, Geraldine van Heemstra’s collaborative work ‘Uisge’ has also become the source for a recent series of works on paper. ‘An Inbhir’ Series II & III are watercolour monotypes created in response to music and water, reflections on our current landscape. Piano composition by Stuart Walter Mitchell.

Geraldine van Heemstra

Geraldine invites chance elements to resonate through her process, working in collaboration with the natural world. She becomes immersed in the elements through walks, often in the Hebrides. During the covid lockdown she has walked at dawn noticing the many ‘micro-adventures’ of frost and dew on cobwebs and vegetation. These encounters have inspired a series of watercolour monotypes and musical collaboration. Geraldine completed an MA in History of Art at Utrecht University (MA) and a Postgraduate Degree in the Conservation of Paintings at the Courtauld Institute of Art, followed by a career in Conservation working in the museum world. She graduated with an MA in Fine Art from City & Guilds of London Art School.
