This piece depicts the Hebridean Isles including Mull, Jura, Islay and Gigha from an aerial perspective. The unpredictability of the waters around these rugged islands is sensed from the tonal marks etched by the acid.

Lucy Devenish

Lucy’s practice is driven by coastal exploration. She sketches in the landscape and undertakes wild swims, filmed using a head camera. Each swim is an act of endurance: working becomes breathing, sweating and struggling. Her etchings stand as testimony to her explorations while her films allow the viewer proximate access to her immersive encounters. In isolation, she has set up a 10ft pool to swim in on a tether line, with her films projected back into the water. Memory and nostalgia are interrogated in a new way as she films a restrained re-living of a past experience. Lucy completed an MA at the City & Guilds of London Art School.
