Debbie Tearle

Debbie is a self-taught, Surrey-based artist creating abstract artworks painting and textiles. Rooted in landscape and time, her work evokes the emotional presence of being within a place. Walking is central to her process; she gathers natural materials that become intrinsic to her pieces, creating a physical and conceptual dialogue between landscape and art.

Recently, valuing the tonal richness and unpredictability of natural inks and earth pigments, Debbie has explored eco-conscious methods of working which aligns with her sensitivity to the environment and material authenticity. In her textile works, stitch functions as both mark and meaning, referencing the Celtic ogham tree alphabet and the idea of “thin spaces” between worlds. Through layered surfaces, natural materials, and symbolic stitching, her work invites contemplation of the enduring dialogue between land and identity of self.

Debbie is a member of ArtCan, Wildwood Artists and co-founding member of Canopy – Tree Artists Collective.
